For some reason, I’m really attracted to this poster for Martha Marcy May Marlene, much more than this one that is featured more often. The concept seems like a pretty bad idea - layering two images onto each other is usually the stuff of photoshop-by-the-artistic-teenager, but this was executed beautifully. There’s something very organic about this image, the way her lips are gently opened, as if she was issuing a sigh, and the way her strands of hair are flying in the background, which unifies the two juxtaposing images.
I’ve watched the film, and was definitely impressed by Elizabeth Olsen’s performance as a young woman who has just returned to her sister’s house after spending two years in an abusive cult. Her acting was subtle, yet effective. At least one Olsen can call herself a real actress!
